My review towards Critical Literacy

5. You have almost completed this semester, so how do you view Critical Literacy now? If you have any comments and suggestions, please do so as it helps for the betterment of the course as a whole.

As we reached to the end of the semester, I am starting to adapt with Critical Literacy subject even though it is hard but it does make me realize that we need this critical thinking as we can answer well peoples answer well later and me become more professional if someone has asked about critical question.

Critical Literacy also does encourage me to read many types of sources such as journals, news and many more. It has left a big impact on myself as me myself need to sacrifice time and sleep where we need to stay up to finished up or assignment and task. The subject also teach me to do our assignment according to the due as we will not feel exhausted then to finished our work if we do our assignment at last minute. Hence, if we do it last minute us, ourselves who will feel the burden.

In addition, I realised that after learning Critical Literacy we become more to a nerdy that needs to read a lot to understanding something even just a little thing. So, this subject has changed me to a bookworm since I always lazy back then when someone ask me to read books. As in the subject we need to read a lot of historical readings and specific terms to understand more when we are doing the assignments such as the Gandhi’s history in assignment 1.

Next, Critical Literacy has showed me that there are euphemism and dysphemism in this communication where we can use it every day. Lastly, it also made me become more knowledgeable about crime or historical events that happen in other countries. I would like to suggest that to provide more interesting articles and activities that will attract students to be more attracted to the subject.

Last but not least, I would like to express my gratitude to precious lecturer Mr. Mark who always guides me and my classmates enthusiastically teaching us and give us much type of activities such as the Town Hall debate for us to understand more about Critical Literacy. Not to forget, my classmates and roommates who have helped me a lot to finished the Critical Literacy assignments. Thankyou Mr. Mark and everyone! J

Body, Mind And Spirit

4. The body is the greatest possession, the mind is the greatest treasure and the spirit is the greatest companion.

  • How do you view above statement.

In my opinion, the statement above is basically about body, mind and spirit is connected to each other. Where three of it that has their own benefits that need us to make use of it wisely and the three things is very important for a human to live.

Body is the greatest possession means the main part of our life where body is the important thing of course, and body does relate with health. As body contain all of things that related with health, as heart, lungs and many more are in the body. It is also important for us to take care of our body as we are easily to get sick with the unpredictable weather and our food consumed with lots of calories so it might effect us now or later. Thus, it is important to take care of our body as it is the main part of a human.

Mind is the greatest treasure. For me this refer to mind is where we need to think wisely and make a correct decision. We cannot simply make decision directly, that is why God create mind for us human to think carefully and make use of it to pure intention. Some people misused the mind as they make some bad plans. That is totally wrong! As our mind, we are the only one who control it, you cannot control anyone's mind, you cannot control what the other's are doing, but you can control your mind. For instance, if we feel mad you need to take breath, relax your body and mind and and the anger will fade soon. The nature of your execution relies on upon the nature of your ability. Thus, the nature of your expertise relies on upon the nature of your mind. As should be obvious, mind represent the greatest treasure.

Lastly, spirit is the greatest companion. Every human that God spirit on their own which is to cooperate well with human's body. Spirit is the one who make human function where it represent of the way of a person's feelings and emotion. Spirit can come in many types, such as spirits can define as a motivation when we need a motivate. If we have a good spirit, for sure we can go through life without obstacle. We also need to be strong, and fight the bad influence that will reduce our spirit. Last but not least, we need to be positive every time and deduct all the fears to have a good and successful life.

In a nutshell, body, mind and spirit plays a big role in our body and life! :)

Black Market & Baby?

3.  “If  money were the only criterion by which a child’s welfare can be gauged, then a baby bought for as much as RM40,000 on the black market would seem set for a life/ For money rich but child-poor couples, it is a small price to pay to introduce a small life into their home. The cot is gilded, the blanket monogrammed, the college fund fund filled to the brim. All that’s wanting is a bun in the oven. And where there is a baby-for-sale racket, money can indeed, buy happiness. And after all, why not?” (NST, March 3, 2013)

  • Provide at least two (2) premises or two (2) counter agreements for the statements based on your agreement.

I strongly agree  with the above statement. As black market little does help with a married couples who did not have baby. First of all, i would like to explain what is black market adoption. Black market adoption means an adoption which involves the purchasing of a child with a large payments and by passing adoptions laws and regulations of the adoption process. This illegal action is surely prohibited as this has break the government laws . But, it is a easiest and happiest way for couples who did not have babies. I agree with the statement because it does help and give a lot benefits to the babies.

First and foremost, it give the babies a brighter future. It is because if they did not sell the baby, the baby might be thrown or dead somewhere else. As the statistic of baby dumping is increasing every year, every month and also every minute. Hence, if the baby were sold to the right couple the baby can get a better life and brighter future rather than they are exposed to bad exposures. Yes, this action is a little bit appropriate but put yourself in the place of a couple who already get married and do not have a baby, of course they are willing to give any amount of money to get the baby as long as they are happy and can make their live more happy.   As in this modern era, there are too many cases about dumped baby who were thrown then somebody take them to be their bait to make money such as as soon the baby grow a little a bit they will ask them to be a beggar.

On the other hand, money can fulfill people's needs. As this because, nowadays many married couple who did not have a baby will tend to argue and fight on each other by accusing one of them is the main problem why they did not get a baby. Isn't that hurt to heard from someone that you love? So money does help them. Rather they keep arguing, so by bought a baby from a black market does help. As buying a baby, it might be their source of happiness even though this action is illegal. Thus, money indeed can buy happiness  if you are sincere in it and have a positive and pure intention.

For instance, as this case happens to my own relative, where my cousin came from a black market adoption also, where my aunt already got married for 10 years but still did not get any baby so they decide to have an adoption baby and bought it from the black market, from the story i have knew, if my aunt did not bought the baby, the dealer will sell it to the a criminal who is a going to sell the baby to Thailand and make the baby as a beggar. Now, my cousin are already grown up and successfully a doctor now. Thus, black market adoption does help the baby and also make a family become more cheerful.

In conclusion, even though  black market adoption is bad referring to the law but yet it make some people happy.

Stereotype

2. Stereotyping is exaggerated generalizations associated with a categorizing system, they go beyond the facts at hand and make claims that usually have no valid basis. However, it is also something that most people find difficult to avoid from doing. What do you think?

Stereotyping is defined as an oversimplified usually a perspective, attitude people hold towards those other people or anything. Various categories of stereotyping are age, sex, race, sexual orientation, religions, and physical ability. The most stereotypes are sex and race.

From my opinion, stereotype is something that we cannot avoid because it is already in our daily life and the generation back then has been using it and that is why the next negation does it too. It is a cycle where it cannot stop. It is also because most people tend to make assumptions before knowing the truth it is like the culture to make a guess and have assumptions towards it. This happens when we are curious about something then we tend to have stereotype thinking over it. For instance, where people usually though if a car on the road is driving slowly, people usually have stereotype it is a woman driver as they have a thinking that women cannot drive well.

In addition, people always stereotype if a younger woman get married with an older man that they are married for wealth. Last but not least, those stereotype because people like to judge without knowing the actual reason. It is not good to judge people by appearance and their attitude as it does not represent them.

Last but not least, we as human need to avoid doing this stereotype as it will lead bad habits to ourselves. Many instances, people who are always does stereotype is usually proven wrong. Because, everyone did not have the same thinking like us, maybe if someone from a different race than yours, and yet you have stereotype on their race, you must have stereotype of it to everyone who is in the race? No, you cannot do that. Different peoples, different behaviour. Do not simply judge without asking as it will lead to misunderstanding. Who are we to judge people? Therefore, we cannot have bad stereotype to everyone, as they know themselves and they know what they are doing.

Critical Literacy?

1 . You heard comments and maybe grievances from your seniors about Critical Literacy, but what is/ are your expectation (s) or hope for this subject as you are just started.

First of all, hello everyone!

As I have finished my semester three in KPMIM, all the seniors are like giving warning and advice that we need to stay stronger as what we going to face in semester four is tougher subject that we need to face. They are like saying that Critical Literacy might make us become more difficult thinker and we need to always think out of the box to make our arguments and points to stand out.

As soon I started the new semester, the first class that I had is Critical Literacy subject as the lecture finish I was like what did just learnt just now? I expected that this subject will ask to be more creative thinker but it is deeper than that. Where we need to be more precise on what are we going to say and give good and out of the box point.

Furthermore, I expected that the quiz and the test are going to be something like easier and not too hard. I am afraid if I cannot answer it well. In addition, I had already seen the senior’s assignment works, wow that is just unexpected as we need to write a lot and it is more than 5 thousand words essay. This is unbelievable! Hopefully I can do it on time and perfectly.

Last but not least, I hope I can survive this semester and I can adapt well with this tougher subject and hopefully I can manage and successfully learn Critical Literacy subject and obtain A for this subject. Thus, I also hope that I will be a good and creative thinker after learning Critical Literacy.

Movie review ; Alone.

Alone Poster

1. Identify the character that you believe played significant role influencing the plot and justify why and how?

Alone is Thailand horror film directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun and Parkpoom Wongpoon in 2007. This movie is about twin that name Ploy and Pim where they have been conjoined for about 15 years. One day, one incident happened where they both fell in love with the same person which is, Wee. The character that I believe has played a significant role influencing the plot in this film is the second twin, Ploy because she has many trust and anger issues in this film, where since the twins was little, she has been humiliated by people around her just because they are Siamese twins where usually their bodies are conjoined to each other.  As time flies they start to grow up, Ploy and Pim has love issues over one guy, which is Wee. Wee is attracted to Pim, and Ploy cannot accept the fact since Ploy's anger start to rose up and she accidentally without knowing she has killed her sister. For instance, she also has killed her own mother just to save her life from the secret that she had kept all this while. Ploy has sacrificed herself to be and evil and heartless woman just to achieve what she want that turn out she as a killer and psycho woman.

2. What do you think is the main topic or issue highlighted n this movie? What is the writer belief?

Main topic or issue highlighted in this movie is love can hurt. It is because is proven that Ploy willing to killed her own twin, Pim just because of one guy which they fight for. She also faced many difficulties with her life, it is because she changed and lied about her identity to Pim from Ploy where she told everyone that Ploy who is the one who died and change her personality resembles Pim to convince people surround her especially Wee the guy that they fight for because she want Wee to trust and love her as Wee love the actual Pim. Therefore, she never went back to her hometown just to run from all the difficulties which can happen if she stays longer there. Once she get back to her hometown, the spirit of the real Pim has been disturbing her all the time, and lastly she became crazy and starting to torture herself because she cannot handle the pain anymore.  The writer beliefs that usually twin share the same feeling and interest together. But, in this movie the twins relationship has been destroyed  because they shared the same interest and make it worse the twin has made many evil and dangerous  ways to make it something that they really want to happen and they got it.

3. Justify what you believe about topic?

What i believe from the topic is love always can hurt anybody even your own family. Because when someone determine to do one thing that they want to achieve it so badly, they usually fight till death to get what they want. It is because love always be a sensitive topic to anybody. Love need trust and loyalty in relationship to make the relationship stronger, somehow when something happen we need to stay strong to fight back for our own right and try to improve our relationship. we, as a human also need to be more understanding with each other. For instance, we need to respect people's choice and say no to back stab our friend or anyone.

4. What is your opinion of  the movie?

My opinion about the movie is this movie is actually really scary and shocking. Because it shows a lot of scary ghost faces, and the story is kinda complicated because it has many confusion from the start as it the introduction of the movie did not really explain well about the twin life. Furthermore, this movie also shows many things that we did not know about twin life so by that it answered a lot about my perspective and question about twin.  Lastly, this movie is a bit bored because movie now days is always about love but with different genre. Thus, for this modern era we really need to have a new kind of movie that can attract more people to attract watch the movie.
